Join Windham Girl Scout Troop No. 90019 for a Heartwarming Mission
We need your help. Our troop is working hard to earn our Take Action Badge — and to do that, we’ve chosen to make a big difference right here in our community. After looking around for ways we could help, we discovered something important: Our village community park is not inclusive for everyone.
Currently, there is no ADA-compliant swing set, which means many of our friends with disabilities can’t enjoy the park like others can. That’s just not OK — and we’re on a mission to fix it. Our goal is to raise $4,000 to purchase and install an ADA-compliant swing set. Our dream is to make our park a place where everyone feels welcome and included. Join us from noon to 3 p.m. June 22 for our lunch fundraiser to support the cause.
This is where you come in. We are asking our amazing community to come together and help us make this dream a reality. We are accepting cash or check donations. Every dollar brings us one step closer to an inclusive playground for all.
Together, we can show that inclusion matters and that everyone deserves the chance to swing, smile and soar. Visit https://www.facebook.com/share/1BoEtkchSn/ for more information.
Windham’s PTO will be hosting a Back 2 School bash for all Windham students in August (date to be announced). We are looking for donations of the following: school supplies, water bottles, gently used/new clothing, gently used/new shoes, hygiene products (deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes), anything that would be useful for students or teachers throughout the school year. We are trying to lessen the burden for all Windham families and teachers. Please message our Facebook page for more information.
The Renaissance Family Center offers free blood pressure screenings. Join us every second Tuesday of the month to have your BP checked while learning from the experts at University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna. Annual physical exams and preventative screenings can keep you healthy by finding and addressing potential health issues before they become big problems. Upcoming dates: July 8, Aug. 12, Sept. 9, Oct. 14 and Nov. 11.

Windham Youth Baseball & Softball is raffling off a $250 Bonner Farms meat package all season long in our concession stand. Stop by the concession stand during any home game for your chance to win this awesome meat package. Tickets are only $10. Live drawing will take place July 1.
The annual Marty Hill Bomber Golf Outing will be held June 21. This event started as a basketball fundraiser and morphed into an event to help build the baseball/softball complex. Now that the fields are completed, the profits from this event go to many things, including but not limited to cheer uniforms, track uniforms, baseball equipment, field maintenance supplies, the alumni banquet, basketball supplies, etc. The hardest thing about running this event is asking people for donations. However, donations are obviously necessary to make the event possible. If interested, a person can donate in two ways:
- Donation of prizes: We are always looking for prizes for holes. These include gift cards, golf balls, rounds of golf, baskets, etc.
- Hole sponsors: Anyone can sponsor a hole. The hole can say anything you would like. In the past, people sponsored holes in memory of their loved ones, in honor of their graduation class, in honor of a child or friend, in honor of an athletic team, etc. Cost is $100 for a full sign or $70 for a half-sign. Checks are made payable to the Windham Athletic Boosters.
If anyone would like to donate to this event, you can mail things to Heather Fall at 3186 State Route 5, Newton Falls, OH 44444, or you can drop them off to me at the school any day school is in session. Thank you!
Save the dates for the upcoming Lions Club Sausage and Steak Booth weekends: July 11 and 12, Aug. 1 and 2, Sept. 5 and 6, and Oct. 3 and 4. Just $6 will buy you the best sausage or steak sandwich in Portage County. The trailer will be located on state Route 303 in the parking lot next to Circle K. Open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The Windham Lions Club has been serving the Windham community since 1955.
Don’t forget, we will be collecting soft plastic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays at our drive thru at the Windham United Methodist Church at 9051 N. Main St.. No need to get out of your car, we will do the heavy lifting. We will also take any used eyeglasses and hearing aids to be recycled and shared.
I look forward to keeping our Windham community up to date with all the information I receive. Please contact me with anything you may like featured. The Around Windham column runs the third week of each month, and I will need all the information the week prior. You may contact me via text/call at 330-283-2711 or via email at [email protected].
Thank you, Nicole Sweet.
