Around Windham: December is getting cozy in the Windham community

Hello Windham Family!

December is often considered a month of warmth, togetherness, and celebration, primarily associated with the winter holidays. Driving around Bomber Country, seeing all the beautiful lights and decorations, bring feelings of joy, family time, festive decorations, cozy nights, and a sense of reflection on the year that’s passed, with a hopeful outlook toward the new one coming soon. I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season! I look forward to bringing you more Windham monthly news and feel-good stories in 2025. As always, please contact me with anything you may like featured. The Around Windham column runs on the third Friday of each month, and I will need all the information the week prior.

Village of Windham updates: Office closed Dec. 24 and 25 for Christmas.

Congratulations to the winners of the Windham house decorating contest: First place: Angie DeSalvo, second place: Charles and DeAnn Mangus and third place: Brenda Saylor.
The Windham Police Department would like to welcome our newest part time police officer Leslie Wall. Welcome to Bomber Country, Officer Wall, and thank you for your service.

The Windham Police Department held a Fill-A-Cruiser toy drive on Dec. 8 at the Windham Dollar General. Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph and all the hard-working elves were there collecting new unwrapped toys and monetary donations. Two cruisers were stuffed full of toys, and these were delivered to the students at K.T. Elementary School. Thank you to the community for their generous donations.

From the Windham Police Department: From Dec. 4 until Dec. 20, Windham PD officers will be providing individuals who are pulled over for minor traffic infractions a “Warning for Christmas Morning’ voucher instead of a traffic citation. This voucher asks that the driver of the vehicle provide a new (unwrapped) toy in lieu of receiving and paying for a traffic citation. This program is designed to give back to those in need this holiday season in Windham. All donations can be dropped off at the Windham PD Lobby 24/7. Any questions, please call the Windham PD at 330-326-2212. Not all traffic violations qualify.

Windham High School Senior Dylan McCune is looking for donations to get the Windham Boys Varsity Basketball Team new warm-up pants for the 2024-25 basketball season. This will be for his senior class project for graduation, so any donations help. Warm-up pants run $35 each and they are trying to get at least 15. Contact him or the school directly to donate. They are about $250 away from their goal. “Thank you and go Bombers!” – Dylan McCune

The Windham Lions will host three pancake breakfasts in 2025. The first will be Jan. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Brick Chapel. The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, tea or hot chocolate and milk. For the first breakfast, the Lions are partnering with the Windham Bombers football team. Please see Jake Eye about presale tickets – $7 presale, $8 at the door for adults, children 6 to 12 presale $5 and $6 at the door, kids 5 and under are admitted free. So happy to be “teaming” up with the Bombers again!

It has been over a decade since Windham Schools have had any type of PTO or PTA. At the end of November, more than 25 community members, parents and school staff came together to establish a brand new PTO (parent teacher organization). They are in the process of applying for their nonprofit and are so excited to work with the school district to provide extra funds, support and resources for the students, teachers, staff and administrators. For the first round of business, during the month of December the PTO will be selling Candy Cane Grams to grades preschool through 12th grade. All proceeds go to start-up costs of the PTO and future fundraising initiatives to support the school district! The next PTO meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 in the meeting room across from the board office. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Windham School Cafeteria is happy to announce that they can now take online payments for your child’s lunch account! These are good for things like extras, ice cream and other treats. You don’t have to worry about your child losing the envelope of money they need to take to the cafeteria to have it put on their account anymore. Please contact Tom Hickman at [email protected] for student information to register an account at www.payschoolscentral.com.
