Ravenna native Mary Jo (Dunlavy) Cross will return to Ravenna on Sunday, Feb. 23 and present a program at the First United Methodist Church in Ravenna.
Last summer, Mary Jo traveled to India for a mission trip. She spent 10 days working with staff sharing the Gospels and teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) at the Delhi Bible Institute. Also, Mary Jo continued learning her ESL skills for a mission trip to Montgomery, Ala., for the organization “Love Your Neighbor.”
Mary Jo and her late husband, Jerry, grew up in Ravenna and raised their daughters here. She is still an active supporter of our community and all are welcome to join us for her program. The church is located at the corner of Riddle Avenue and South Prospect Street. She will speak at 11 a.m. and after lunch, she will visit and answer more questions. The Auxiliary of University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna is celebrating more than 80 years of healthcare in Portage County. This year, we’ll again be hosting a Fashion Show and Brunch Benefit on Saturday, April 5. Doors open at 10 a.m., Brunch Buffet at 10:30 a.m. and the fashion show will start at 11:30 a.m.
The event will take place at the Kent State University Hotel & Conference Center, 215 S. Depeyster St., in Kent.
Tickets will be $50 individual and $80 for patrons. We will also have a basket raffle, 50/50 tickets and a mimosa, beer and wine set-up.

Don’t forget the Immaculate Conception Church monthly spaghetti dinner. It will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 in the I-C Parish Hall, 251 W. Spruce Ave., Ravenna.
Dinner consists of salad, bread, spaghetti, meatballs, drink and dessert. The cost is $12 per dinner at the door, dine in or carry out. Children younger than 5 eat free. Come and join the delicious food and share with your friends.
The Ravenna Eagles Club, 812 Cleveland Road, is hosting Friday Night Fish Fries from 4 to 7 p.m. every Friday. Dinners include fish, shrimp, chicken and combos and come with French fries, coleslaw and bread. Cost is $13 each and carry-out orders are available by calling 330-296-9463. The fish fries are open to the public.
The Spring Shoot will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Sundays, March 9 through April 13, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1055, 6000 New Milford Road, Ravenna. Cost is $3 per shot, $5 for money round. Prizes include turkey, ham, bacon, meat packs and cash. The event is open to the public and .410, 20-, 16- and 12-gauge accepted.
