Around Edinburg: Work with the Board of Elections, attend a spaghetti dinner, trunk or treat and more

I recently took the training to be a Precinct Election Official, and the Board of Elections is still looking for people to help out in the November General Election. There is also compensation of $150 if you follow through with the training and work the day of the election: $20 for the training and $130 for working the polls. If this is something you might consider doing, contact the Portage County Board of Elections at 330-297-3511. It’s a great way to be involved.

Don’t forget about the spaghetti dinner and basket raffle benefiting the Portage County Water Rescue Team on Oct. 20. Funds will be used to purchase ice rescue suits to help ensure that rescuers are getting to the victim faster and safer. It will also be used for communication equipment to better communicate with the team and other agencies in the county during emergencies. Again, the benefit dinner will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Palmyra United Methodist Church, 3968 S.R. 225. The cost of the dinner is $10 per person and $5 for kids who are younger than 5 years old.

Halloween is nearly here and it is time to Trunk or Treat! Edinburg is holding its annual Trunk or Treat at the park from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 29. Vehicles need to be set up by 12:30 p.m. There will also be a gift basket raffle during the event. Free hay rides, hot dogs, chips and hot chocolate will be available, and costume contests will be held for all age groups up to 14 years old. Don’t forget to bring your pet for the Best Dressed Pet contest as well. Edinburg Park is located at 4326 Rock Spring Road.

Southeast Primary School PTO will also be hosting a Trunk or Treat a few days before on Friday, Oct. 27 beginning at 6 p.m. There will be face painting, photo ops and, of course, lots of candy. Anyone interested in donating candy to the event can send it in with their child to school if they are unable to park and hand out candy themselves. Contact the PTO with any questions at [email protected]. The primary school is located at 8301 Tallmadge Road.

Music boosters for Southeast Pirates will be holding its annual Holiday Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Southeast High School cafeteria. Admission is free and there will be crafters, vendors, concessions, carolers, raffle baskets and more. All proceeds benefit the music programs for Southeast schools. The high school is located at 8423 Tallmadge Road.

Don’t forget to send information to my email at [email protected] by the second Wednesday of the month to be included in the column and thank you.
