Main Street Ravenna’s Winter Writing Festival will be coming up this weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22 in downtown Ravenna. This year’s featured guest speaker is local author Julie Hatcher, who’s latest title, “Not Quite By the Book,” will be released at the beginning of March.
Not only will Julie be talking about how she came to be an author and offering advice for other aspiring writers, but she will be on hand at Reed Memorial Library with me and my bookshop, Books a Go Go, to sign copies of “Not Quite By the Book,” which we were able to receive prior to the release date.
Julie’s talk begins at 10 a.m. at the movie theater with the signing happening around 11 a.m. at the library. Visit www.mainstreetravenna.com for complete information and to purchase tickets to the event. Anyone is welcome to stop at the library to say hello to Julie. More of her titles plus books on writing will be available for purchase and ordering.
There’s still a little bit of time left to register your child if they are interested in baseball or softball this year. Southeast Youth Baseball and Softball are currently holding their registration online at http://www.leaguelineup.com/seyouthbaseballandsoftball until Feb. 28. The organization is for boys and girls ages 4 to 14 years old. Registration is also open to Bio-Med students who live in the Southeast District. If you have any questions, email [email protected] and coaching discounts are available.
A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held for local firefighter Bob Abbuhl from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at the Palmyra United Methodist Church. Bob was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is undergoing treatment but can use the support of our community in his fight. The Palmyra United Methodist Church is located at 3968 S.R. 225 Diamond. Cost for the dinner is $10 per adult and $5 for kids ages 5 and under. Raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle will also be available.
The Southeast Music program will be holding a music gala at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at Packard Music Hall. This gala is a fundraiser for the Instrument Replacement Fund and should be a fun musical night for everyone. The event features Streetcorner Symphony, The Panyard Steel Orchestra, Southeast Schools Band and Choir and musician/singer/songwriter and Bare Naked Ladies founding member, Steven Page. Tickets for the event can be purchased on www.streetcornersymphony.com.
Don’t forget to send information to my email at [email protected] by the second Wednesday of the month to be included in the column and thank you.
