It’s time to make plans to attend the 22nd Charlestown Summer Festival and Cruise In. Join in the fun on Saturday, August 2 from 3-7 p.m. at the Charlestown Township Park on Rock Spring Road. Admission is FREE and plenty of fun for all ages is planned.
Outback Ray and his Amazing Animals are scheduled at 4 p.m. and Magic by Kell will perform at 5:30 p.m. under the pavilion. Kids can get free school supplies at the Charlestown United Methodist Church tent. Put out a “fire” and check out the Charlestown fire trucks. Check out the adoptable pets at the Good Sam’s Rescue tent, test your throwing arm at the dunk tank and more. Other activities include a rock climbing wall, Little Zoo Playland and Pirate Ship-Mutiny on the Bouncer. Food will be provided by TLC catering, Honey Bean Coffee and Dreamsicle Ice Cream Truck.
Cruise on in with your car, motorcycle or anything with wheels! There is a lovely shaded area to enjoy the Cruise In. No pre-registration is needed and prizes will be awarded, Participants may begin arriving at 2 p.m. If you have questions you may text Jesse at 330-690-3193. Charlestown United Methodist Church will be hosting a free community Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 19 from 2-4 p.m on the church lawn. Ice cream, brownies and plenty of toppings will be provided so you can build your own masterpiece. Bring the whole family to enjoy outdoor games such as corn hole, Jenga and Connect Four. If games aren’t your thing, it’s a great time to relax and chat with your neighbors and friends or maybe meet some new friends. All are welcome.

Rick and Janet Burt recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with an open house at Charlestown United Methodist Church. More than 70 family members and friends, including nearly all of their wedding party, enjoyed reminiscing and a delicious meal catered by Trish and Sam Eisele. The party was hosted by daughter Tracy and Kelly Burt, niece Erin and Joe Ruggles and sister Ruth Ann Bartholomew.
Rick Burt and Janet Hoover were married on May 24, 1975. Both are graduates of Southeast High School. They have two children, Tracy and Eric and three granddaughters, Tristan, Kylar and Alexis. Rick, a truck driver, retired from Blue Lynx in 2018. Janet, a registered nurse, retired from Robinson Memorial Hospital in 2016. Rick enjoys attending youth sporting events, kayaking and golf, while Janet enjoys spending time with family, especially her granddaughters and great nephews and great niece and teaching Sunday School. Together they enjoy traveling with Rick’s two brothers and sister, along with their spouses, and have a cruise planned with them this November. Congratulations on 50 years together and best wishes for many more.
